These are the minutes of the March 13th, 2004 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club. The meeting was held at Gordon & Pam Jackson's house in Canterbury. It was the club's third annual workshop meeting. About 30 plus members attended using the shop's five rock trimmers. A glass bead blasting cabinet and air scribe were also available along with two microscope set ups. After many specimens were perfectly trimmed ( as well as a few destroyed ) , the club enjoyed a pot luck lunch buffet upstairs. There was a raffle for the numerous mineral perkies that were donated. Most of the socializing centered on spring's upcoming field collecting prospects. BOARD MEETING - MARCH 20th, 2004 A Capital Mineral Club Board Meeting was held on March 20th, 2004 at 10 AM. It was held at the Jackson's home in Canterbury. There were two main topics covered - the club's upcoming year's plans and a proposed NH State display of minerals by David Wunsch, the NH State Geologist.
The topics covered for the club included a nominating committee for the next club director. The May meeting of the club will be moved to the first Saturday, May 1st, due to conflict with the Maine Symposium on the second Saturday. Dave Sheldon should set up an audit schedule with Don Dallaire to review the treasurer's records. David Wunsch, NH State Geologist, will be put on the club's mailing list to receive the newsletter. Several club field trip's were proposed - Eden Mills, August 7th & 8th; Moat Mountain, on July 10th; and Ossipee, June 26th. Future details in later issues of the newsletter. And last month's speaker, Gene Bearss, only took travel expenses ( $37) for his talk, so Gordon Jackson proposed donating $50 towards the Newery project which is a strong interest of his. This motion passed. The second main topic was on a proposed NH mineral display in the building for the NH Department of Environmental Services in Concord. Several areas of concern were brought up including the cases, security and most importantly the specimens, how they should be either loaned or given for the display. It was decided that a letter of intent should first be drafted by David Wunsch. Dave will also be giving the April talk for the club about the "Old Man of the Mountain".
