These are the minutes of the March 13th , 2005 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.  Due to a snow storm the original scheduled date of Saturday the 12th was cancelled.

The meeting was held at Gordon & Pam Jackson’s house in Canterbury.  It was

the club’s fourth annual workshop meeting.  About 33 members attended using the shop’s rock trimmers, ultra-sonic cleaners, glass bead blasting cabinet and microscopes.

After many specimens were cleaned and trimmed to perfection   ( and a few

destroyed ) ,  the club enjoyed a pot luck lunch buffet upstairs.  There were numerous

perky specimens donated as raffle prizes.  New this year were tables set aside to trade

and sell minerals.  Also a silent auction was held.

Like the Christmas party,  this annual meeting is becoming very popular and our thanks go out to the Jackson family for hosting it.

Respectfully submitted,

Vincent Valade

Secretary

Club Geology Scholarship

The following are proposals which were brought up by Jim Tovey at the February meeting regarding the Club Scholarship program:

At the February meeting, I brought up two proposals:

1. The first proposal was opening the club geology scholarship to other students in the state of New Hampshire such as the geology degree candidates at Keene State College. This proposal generated a lot of discussion and blossomed into a separate $500.00 scholarship for the Keene State College geology department. It also highlighted the situation that the club doesn’t have a good idea of what state college or university geology degree programs are presently offered.  To help clarify this I have asked Peter Nielsen the chair of the Geology Department at Keene State College to attend the April meeting. Peter has agreed and would like to give a short description of the Keene State College degree program. He will also be able to answer any club member questions formally or informally. This presentation is a good opportunity to find out about one of NH’s geology college programs. It will also give us an opportunity to determined if it’s worthy of the clubs attention and money.

2. The second proposal was having the recipient of the scholarship work with us at the club show. Having the worthy student at the show gives some of us an opportunity to get to know them and for him / her to get to know us as individuals. It also gives the student the opportunity to learn about the club and get a general sense of the hobby. This student / club interaction could be the start of a longer relationship and an opportunity for parties to benefit in many ways.
