Minutes of the November 13, 2004 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on Clinton Street, Concord, NH.

The meeting was called to order by President, Gordon Jackson at 7:30PM.  There were 31 members present and 3 guests.

The Secretary’s minutes for October were accepted as printed in the newsletter. The Treasurer’s report was read and accepted.  The report on the Mineral Show was also read and accepted.  Admissions were down this year, 914 compared to about 1100 for 2003.

We voted into membership, Tom Weatherby and his family

A motion was made by Scott Higgins to give Alvin Jones $200 for his help at Eden Mills.  This was seconded by Gordon Graham.  Motion was accepted.

It was decided that the Stone property in Unity, NH, was not what the Club would want  to develop into a collecting site. The Club cannot afford to buy the property and then have to commit a large some of funds to drill, blast and excavate and still not be sure if anything collectable would be found.  The Club extended a thank you to Charles Forsburg for his extensive work on researching this property.

Gordon Jackson said he would consider selling the mineral rights to Hoyt Mine, Orange, NH to the Club.   The Club will look into this.

Scott Higgins will be in charge of the Christmas party which will be held Dec. 11 at 12:00 noon in the Salvation Army building in Concord, NH

Door prize winners were Howard and Bea Ewing, John Herndon, Fred Noel Spiess (Kathy Dallaire’s dad), Kathy Dallaire and Brittany Graham.

Speaker for the evening was Matthew Frades, our scholarship recipient from UNH with a great talk on his experience at “Field Camp in Western Ireland”.  It was an excellent slide show on the geology and country side.
