Mr. Gordon Graham

46 Pine Ridge Road

Sunapee, NH 03782

Dear Gordon,

I am writing to you this morning to thank the Capital Mineral Club for permitting the Museum to hold a silent auction at your annual Gem & Mineral Festival this past weekend at Sunapee Resort. Bill Metropolis reports that it was very successful from the Museum’s viewpoint and that many of your club members thanked him for contributing to the show in this way.

The Museum was fortunate to receive by bequest the mineral collection of Benjamin and Mary Shaub of Northampton, Massachusetts this past spring. Mary’s lawyer interpreted her will to mean that the Museum was to receive anything in the house of a geological nature. Thus, we ended up with their remaining library and lapidary items as well as a large number of minerals and rocks. We are grateful to Bob Whitmore and Gordon Jackson for the suggestion of holding a silent auction at your club show and for making the arrangements that enabled us to dispose of duplicate and unwanted materials and get it into the hands of people who appreciate the items. The proceeds from the auction will be deposited into a special “heritage” account and used only for the purchase of specimens for the collection.

Bill also tells me that some members asked if we would hold a similar auction next year. We would be happy to and we would plan to donate a specimen or two for door prizes.

Again, thank you for permitting us to be part of your show.

Sincerely,

Carl A. Francis

Curator

The Long Awaited PALERMO BOOK is NOW available!

Over 200 pages of history and mineralogy of the famous Palermo Phosphate Pegmatite Mines located in North Groton, New Hampshire. This book contains over 130 mineral illustrations by Frederick C. Wilda.

This Book is a must for the serious collector!
"The Pegmatite Mines Known as PALERMO"
Written and Published by Robert W. Whitmore and Robert Lawrence

Bob is offering Clubs a 15% discount on the Palermo book when purchasing 5 or more books.  That is a $22.50 savings off the cover price, so your cost would be $127.50 through the club.  We had three members sign up at the last meeting, so we need 2 more.  The book is impressive and I think you too will agree.

If you would like to purchase one please contact Bob Whitmore at 603-529-2621
