they can "pull it off." The Augusta Symposium is such a wonderful time. Peg McBrien and I shared a room for the two nights. In the course of the weekend we seemed to see everyone we know in: The North Shore Rock and Mineral Club, The Lynn Mineral Club, The Capitol Mineral Club, the Saco Mineral and Gem Club, and the Micromounters of New England. The 3 weekend in May is Micro mineral weekend at the Moose Hall in Marlboro. This day is very hard work for those dozen members who organize and run the program.

In July, a terrific MMNE get together was held at Pam and Gordon Jackson’s lovely home. The potluck lunch was great, but it is unbelievable that we could eat anything more after Pam’s mouthwatering blueberry muffins that we had for breakfast!

Later in July, a day field trip to the Bennett Quarry in Maine was a great social event with pals from The North Shore Rock and Mineral Club and the Saco Valley Gem and Mineral Club attending. Good weather, good collecting, good photo ops, and party-like picnicking made for a delightful day. Thanks to Dick Dennison and Josephine McIndewar for setting up this joint field trip. On the 28th of July I left for Bancroft, Ontario with Marlene and Bob York, Dick Dennison, and Mary Fraser. We had a glorious seven days. "The Boys," Dick and Bob, had found for us (on the Internet) a brand new, furnished, rental house out in the "boonies" north of Bancroft. We had quite good weather and outstanding collecting. We joined up with a Canadian tailgating mineral friend, Bob Beckett, who we had met at The Gemboree the year before. We also did some collecting with two men from New York whom shared their portable fluorescent lights one evening and took us to a noted quarry another day. Somehow, at the end of the week, we managed to clean up the rental property and the van to return them to their nearly new pristine condition, no small task! I had the greatest time with these four comedians, who kept me giggling the whole week.

September 20 was a marathon for me. First Bob and I attended the rededication of Dr Robert Boyd’s Science Hall. I know Uncle Bob would have been so proud, and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it. One of the speaker celebrities was a student of Bob’s, and his warm remarks brought tears to my eyes. After viewing some of the dazzling new classroom and science labs, I headed over the Kancamagus Highway to the Albany Town Hall. There the Saco Valley Gem and Mineral Club were holding our annual Show and auction. I made the trip in record time. I was in time for the sub-sandwich lunch and for Gene Bearss’ always amusing and profitable auction. Thanks for the success of this annual event go to the small group of devoted workers: Dick Dennison, Marlene and Bob York, Jon Herndon, Gene Denu, Gene Bearss, Mary Fraser, and Bob Gallant. Special thanks to Gloria Dennison who helped the Spinks put on the lunch. We are going to miss Walter and Jackie Spink who are moving to Florida.

The October 2003 foliage season was very late, but then it lasted on and on. The absolute peak of color was Columbus Day Weekend, so the tourist-oriented business people were delighted. That was also the Capital Mineral Club’s Show
