These are the minutes of the February 9th, 2002 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

 

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on Clinton

Street in Concord, New Hampshire.

 

The meeting was called to order by vice president, Howard Ewing at 1:30PM. There

were nineteen members present.

 

The secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter. The treasurer's

report was read and accepted.

 

Old business: A presentation of a sweatshirt was made to Don Dallaire for winning

the "Best Outside of New England" category in the contest at the Christmas party. Joint field trips
with other clubs was covered by Jon Herndon. Cost for future embroidered wear with the club logo

was covered.

 

New business: Vince Valade brought up the possibility of the club developing and

posting a verified NH Species list for minerals of the state. A committee was formed to explore this

and make recommendations to the club. Steffen Hermanns discussed the loupe that was shown

in the February newsletter. Kim Young mentioned that she still has some lapidary equipment available.

Bill Adams mentioned that he had purchased a half pound of coffee direct from Brazil that he would

bring to the next meeting. And Pat Barker mentioned the article in Rock & Gem by John Sanakas.

 

Steffen Hermanns supplied this month's refreshments.

 

There were several door prize winners this month: Vince Valade - Capital Mineral

Club logo cap; Don Dallaire - Pyrite from Quebec ( donated by Jon Herndon); Natalie Undercofler -

Ammonite; Frances Gill - Scepter Quartz from Brazil; and Pat Barker - Simeone Quarry Quartz

(donated by Scott Higgins).

 

This month's talk was on the geology of the famous Tsmueb deposit in Namibia,

Africa. Jim Young gave his usual great presentation on how and why these deposits formed and

the reasons that they produced such great mineral specimens and variety.
