These are the minutes of the February 8th, 2003 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on

Clinton Street in Concord, New Hampshire.

The meeting was called to order by president, Bill Brown at 1:30 PM. There were 35 members present.

The secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter. The treasurer's report

was read and accepted.

 

Old Business: Bill Brown reminded everyone that dues are due. Scott Higgins gave a review

on the Newry Mineral Park project. Gordon Jackson motioned that $550 be given to this project in April and another $550 be given in October. His motion to be printed in the April newsletter and voted on during the April meeting. John Herndon discussed some proposed White Mountain changes. Dana Jewell and Bill Brown were presented their "Best Field Collecting and Best Lapidary Plaques." Elvern Jones sent a thank you note with news that Eden Mills will be staying open for this coming year. Gordon Jackson brought in some free books for the club.

 

New Business: Gordon Jackson discussed next month's meeting at his house - the annual

workshop meeting. Please bring a pot luck item for lunch. Snow date will be the following Sunday, March 9th.

 

Robin Edgewood-Reece is stepping down from newsletter editor. Steffen Hermanns will

be taking on the job. John Herndon, NEFTA coordinator, discussed this coming year's plans with the club.

Pat Barker mentioned that Don Dallaire has a picture in the current Mineralogical Record.

One new member was voted in - Carlos Gristani from Hollis, NH.

John McCrory supplied this month’s refreshments.

There were many door prizes this month due to the donations of many members including a

starter collection from Dana Jewell. The winners were Bob Merrill, Bill Brown, John McCrory, Pat Barker, Howard Ewing, Vince Valade, Don Dallaire, Steffen Hermanns, Gordon Graham and Charles Forsberg.

Bill Brown was this month's speaker. Through a slide presentation, Bill talked about his time

collecting in the various New England mineral localities and mines. Many classic areas were covered. Some of his vintage slides brought laughter by including what some of the club members looked like 25 years ago. Great talk Bill!
