These are the minutes of the April 12th, 2003 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was the Harvard Museum trip with the business end being done during the bus ride to and back from the museum.

The meeting was called to order by president, Bill Brown. There were 31 members present.

The secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter. The treasurer's report was read and accepted.

Old Business:  A motion was made and passed to give $1,500.00 to the UNH Field Camp Scholarship in honor of past member, Russel Sims. Also motioned and passed was a donation to the Newry Mineral Park of $550 this April and again this October.

Jon Herndon is working on four possible field trips for this year's NEFTA trips:  A June 7th trip to Pearl Lake; an August trip to Palermo; a Gilman Notch, Center Ossipee trip; and a special Wise Mine trip which could include dump bulldozing on the July 4th holiday.

New Business:  Gordon Graham and John McCrory will co-chair the Sunapee show this year.

The date for the May meeting will be changed to May 17th due to the Maine Symposium being held on May 10th. The treasurer's books were audited by David Shelton. The club motioned and passed his recommendation to accept them.

The club officer nominating committee presented it's choices for club:

President - Gordon Jackson; VP - Scott Higgins; Treasurer - Don Dallaire;

Secretary - Vince Valade.

Martin Kippley will set up two field trips to Eden Mills.  One in mid-July and the other in mid-September. He'll try and have them set up by the May meeting. The new T-shirts for those who help at the show this year, are ready.

During the return trip from the Harvard Museum,  Bob Whitmore presented the club with the option of possibly obtaining a part of the Rice Mine property (a side pegmatite prospect). The club, by owning a share of the mine, would preserve the right for all club members to have access and collect at the prospect for the future. It was decided that Bob would pursue this option and present further info at the next club meeting.

Bill Metropolis was this month's speaker. He is one of the museum's curators.  Members were treated to a special tour of the main mineral room with many of the stored cabinet specimens being brought out and shown. The tour continued with a behind the scene showing of brand new acquisitions being held in the back offices.  Bill's talk was both humorous and informative.

Respectfully submitted,

Vincent Valade
