These are the minutes of  the April 10th,  2004   meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting opened at 7:35 p.m. at the Salvation Army building, Gordon Jackson, President presided.  There were 31 members present.

The February report of the Secretary was unanimously accepted as written, even  in the absence of the Club Secretary.  And the Treasurer’s report was finally read and unanimously excepted after a long pause to give time for the Treasure to bring his books up to date.

 Old Business:

The mineral display proposal with the State Geologist is in the works and making its way through the State without, at this point, any negative comments.

John Herndon mentioned upcoming NEFTA trips and the need to give a two week notice to sigh up if you plan to make a trip.  This will insure the hosting club what to expect and give you time to receive any needed information. There currently are nearly 35 collecting trips to date with many more to come.

 New Business:

(1)   A slate of officers was presented to be voted at the May meeting.  They are:

             Gordon Jackson, President

             Scott Higgins, Vice-President

             Vince Valade, Secretary

             Don Dallaire, Treasurer

             Charles Forsberg, Director, 2004-2006

             Jon Herndon, Auditor, 2004-2006

Serving their remaining terms are Steffen Hermanns, Director, 2003 - 2005 and Bob Whitmore, Auditor, 2003 - 2005.

(2)   Jon Herndon mentioned the need to reclaim the current Deer Hill collecting site and make a new area.  This probably will not happen unless the Forest Service receives enough letters from collectors to open a new site.  He urged members to write or e-mail the Forest Service.

(3)  The Topsfield Show is May 1 and 2.  Seven free entry tickets were available, courtesy of Howard Ewing.

Door Prize Winners: There were several raffle ticket winners, Micheal Undercofler, Brittany Graham, Jennessa Bissonnette, Olivia Graham, Pam Jackson and others.

Presentation: David Wunch, State Geologist gave a presentation on what happened to the “Old Man” on that eventful night, May 3, 2003.  His explanation and probable events leading to the collapse were well received.

Displays: Minerals from Conway granite were displayed by Don Dallaire and Jon Herndon.  Kim Young had several pictures of Stan’s taken during the 1958 restoration work.

Refreshments were supplied by Brian and Jennessa Bissonnette and enjoyed by all.

Respectfully submitted,

Pam Jackson, acting secretary
