Volume 2 Issue 2

These are the minutes of the September 8th, 2001 meeting of the Capital Mineral  Club.

The meeting was held in the all-purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on  Clinton Street in Concord, New Hampshire.  The meeting was called to order by retiring president  Jon Herndon.  Jon thanked the club for being allowed to serve as president for the past two years and then introduced this year's new president Bill Brown.

There were 20 members and 2 guests present, Bill Adams and Michael Normadin.  The secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter.  The treasurer's report was read and accepted.

Old Business:  A show update was given by John McCrory (Show Chairman).  Security, John's new address, dealers, trailer and barbecue help were some topics covered.
The newsletter masthead contest was discussed.  After reviewing the two nominations, the club elected to leave the current masthead until a better one is presented.
The mine acquisition report was tabled until the November meeting.  Jon Herndon reviewed the remaining field trips for this year.  The auditor's report was read and accepted.
Kim Young described the show job of taking care of the mailing list for the show flyers.  Kim has decided to retire from this job which she has done for many years.  Jon Herndon, Martin Kippley and Scott Higgins have volunteered to help out.

New Business:  Two new members were accepted -  Michael Normadin and Bill Adams.  A new membership list was reviewed by attending members for additions or corrections.  The list will be sent out with next month's newsletter in the member only copies.  The Wise Mine Collector's Award was mentioned.  Also, a possible field trip to the Wise Mine for next year was mentioned.  The club will have to obtain insurance to cover this trip.  A motion to table this discussion until more details on insurance cost are obtained was made.

There were several door prizes this month.  A few of them contributed by Bill Brown.  A polished stone necklace was won by Bill Adams; a Calcite from France by Don Dallaire; a .85 ct. Cut Quartz by Kim Young; a Nottingham Muscovite by Howard Ewing; a Nottingham Golden Beryl by Robin Edgewood-Reece; a Pyrite Sun from Vermont by Pam Jackson and a Barite from Peru was won by Martin Kippley.

Bob Janules presented a talk on the accessory minerals found in the Conway Granites.  A complete list of mineral species were covered, including slides and theories on their formation.  Many members brought in Conway Granite specimens to help show examples of the species covered in this fine talk.
