These are the minutes of the September 14th, 2002 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on Clinton Street in Concord, New Hampshire.

The meeting was called to order by president Bill Brown at 7:30 PM. There were 25 members and nine guests present.

The secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter. The treasurer's report was read and accepted.

Old Business: John McCrory reviewed the current status with the upcoming Sunapee Show.  The dealers, flyers and barbecue were covered. Set-up for the show will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 4th with a buffet lunch for the help. Bill Brown thanked the club members that showed up for the club trailer clean-up / fix-up day. And he also explained the Sunapee show Saturday night barbecue.

New Business: The club's president's wife, Cathy Brown made a new club table cloth for the club meeting and use at the upcoming show. The upcoming October 19th N.E.F.T.A. field trip and some other shows were covered by Bill Brown. Seven new membership applications were voted into the club with many of them being from our web site. Ed Hakesly paid us a visit from Arkansas bringing many free samples, Smithsonite from the Philadelphia Mine, Rush, Arkansas. Also some nice Selenite from Wynne, Arkansas.  Bill Brown discussed the upcoming Pearl Lake/Mink Pond field trip this next Saturday. And Scott Higgins brought in some 2 x 2 x 1 inch miniature plastic boxes for sale to club members.

Jon Herndon supplied this month’s refreshments.

Four door prizes due to two donations from Pat Barker. Martin Kippley won a Asbestos, Globe, Arizona. Robert Merril won a Margarite from West Cummington, MA. Netla Merril won a Epidote and Prehnite from Westfield, MA. And Howard Ewing won a Madagascar Quartz.

Fred Wilder was this month's guest speaker. Fred is a mineral artist whose work has been featured in Rocks and Minerals magazine. He is currently producing works for the upcoming Palermo Mines book by Robert Whitmore. Fred discussed techniques used in creating his works. From many hours just studying a specimen from under the microscope to carefully drawing out the sketch. He mentioned how he was drawn into mineral art and his choice of mediums that he uses. Many of his art pieces were shown.

A VERY COLORFUL talk.

Respectfully submitted,

Vincent Valade
