On the other hand, snowmobilers seem to be dying at an increased rate. Hunters shoot each other, several skiers die in accidents each winter, and hikers are a constant menace and expense to our Fish and Game officers and to the State of New Hampshire.

My Honorable Husband and Mr. Wagner agreed that we should have a meeting at the Moats in late April or early May. I volunteered Gordon, Mike, Jonathan, myself, and hopefully others for this trip. He said that he and Terry Millar, the area Ranger, would meet us there at the High Trees Parking lot.

(Mr. Wagner mentioned that he and other Rangers had a pleasant experience as guests of Polar Mining Camps last summer and met many New England mineral collectors that day).

I remembered to mention that Jonathan had received a communication from the Park Service saying that they plan to reroute the trail through the Moats, and we wondered what that meant. He said that trail bikers and hikers had caused so much erosion that it was felt that the trail should be rerouted, but that it wouldn’t impact the mineral collecting area.

We parted cordially, and the next day he and Terry Miller got in touch with me in a conference call. They expressed their desire to meet with us in the spring.
