PRESIDENT'S LETTER

JUNE 2001

Summer is here and I know that a lot of club members, like myself are in the field doing what we have been waiting for, mineral collecting!  I hope that we all have a safe and productive season.  It is also the time for me to reflect on the last two years as president of the club.  I entered into the position of president with little or no experience.  I relied on the example of the previous president and through the last two years, learned a lot and even enjoyed the challenges of heading the best mineral club in New Hampshire.  I learned to use the vast resources of the older members, and I found out that this club is more about having a good time than in achieving results.  Therefore, I want to thank all who have helped me and given me advice over the last two terms.

In the last two years, we have worked and accomplished many things.  From a coordinated effort of the regional clubs, we were able to reopen the Deer Hill Amethyst locale.  We attended and commented on the new five year National Forest plan.  We developed and launched a club web site, which can only get better with time.  And we were able to change the date of the Sunapee Show, to the early fall, without it going bust.  Also, the club is now a member of  NEFTA, which provides the membership with access to many field trips in New England and the Tri-State region.

In September,  Bill Brown will become the new club president.  I hope that the club will provide him with the same support that you have shown me.  And, as we enter the fall, we need to concentrate on the up coming mineral festival.  We need the support of the club members in getting the flyers out, in the setup and running of the festival and the break down after the festival is over.  I hope that  we see some new faces at the festival as it provides us with the money to operate for the year.  In closing, I would once again like to thank all of you who have helped me in the last two years.
