These are the minutes of the April 10th, 2005 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building

on Clinton Street in Concord,  NH.

The meeting was called to order by president, Gordon Jackson, at 7:30 PM.  There were forty-one members and one guest, Dr. Peter Nielson, of Keene State College.

The secretary’s report was accepted as printed in the newsletter.  The treasurer’s

report was read and accepted.

Old Business:  The Palermo Mine club trip, scheduled for June 19th, was discussed

by Gordon Jackson along with the planned Eden Mills trip on July 9 and 10.  An August 13th

sign-up sheet for the Springfield, MA Show was passed around with the club covering

admission and parking fees.  “Collecting Teams”  sign up was brought up by Gordon as

something the club members could do.  The Newry Project was covered with a change in

where the fund would be directed.  The club felt that our contribution would be better spent with a NH theme and should request our funds back since the original purpose of the project didn’t come to be.

Dr. Peter Nielson spoke on behalf of Keene State College, covering the Geology program and it’s students there.  Also, a comparison to the other state universities was made.

New Business:  Gordon Jackson made a motion that the club get it’s money back

from the Newry Project.  It was seconded and accepted.  Dr. Peter Nielson applied for club membership and was accepted.

Neila and Bob Merrill supplied this month’s refreshments.

The door prizes were won by Gordon Graham, Lucien Valade, Betty Talpey,

Olivia Graham, Pat Barker, Gordon Jackson, Britney Graham, Bill Adams, Peter Cram and Curtiss Weatherby.

Long time club member, Pat Barker, was this month’s speaker.  She presented a review of her mineral collecting experiences starting as a young girl during the Great Depression, thru more recent times.

Her early trips to the Perham’s rock shop in Maine and her time in England and Korea were covered.

With great slides and often humorous stories she shared her love of the hobby with the rest of us.

Respectfully submitted,

Vincent Valade
