These are the minutes of the September 11th, 2004 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

 

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on Clinton Street in Concord,  New Hampshire.

 

The meeting was called to order by president, Gordon Jackson at 7:30 PM.  There were 32 members and one guest, Andrea Vannah, present.

 

The May secretary’s report was postponed till the next newsletter.  The treasurer’s report was

read and accepted.

 

Old Business:  Gordon Graham presented a show progress report and request for show help with barbeque set-up and flyer distribution.

Bill Brown made some  flyer  holders/displayers which he passed out during the meeting.

This year Harvard University will conduct a silent auction of  200 lots containing rock / mineral specimens of the late William Shaub who was a professor at Amherst University.

Bob Whitmore will have a book signing of his new Palermo Mines book.

Vince Valade will cover set-up of displays at Sunapee for Gordon Jackson.

 

New  Business:  Gordon Jackson is looking for a Christmas Party Chairperson to cover for him this year since he will be in Africa.

Dave Shelton audited the treasurer’s books and found them complete and accurate and the club passed the motion to accept them.

Gordon Jackson suggested that the Salvation Army be given $300 for this year’s use of the club room.

Gordon mentioned that this coming weekend will have both the Saco Show and the N.E. Micromounters meeting.

A thank you letter from UNH about the scholarship donation was shown.

 

This month’s refreshments were supplied by Mike and Natalie Undercofler.

 

The door prizes were won by Martin Kippley, Bill Brown, Dave Shelton, Howard Ewing,

Charles Forsberg, Mike Undercofler, Kathy Dallaire and Vince Valade.

 

This month’s speaker was Robert Whitmore on his trip to Namibia, Africa.  Bob used both

digital pictures and slides to present his adventure collecting smoky quartz, topaz, beryl and schorl.

The mountains and the pockets they contained were shown including some of the local wildlife.

He described how the locals would try to sell their finds to you.
