These are the minutes of the January  14th , 2006 meeting of the Capital Mineral Club.

The meeting was held in the all purpose room of the Salvation Army Building on Clinton Street in Concord, NH.

The meeting was called to order by president Scott Higgins at 1:00 PM.  There were 22 members present.

The secretary’s report was accepted as printed in the newsletter.  The treasurer’s report was tabled till next month.

Old Business:  Future Gems and Mineral shows were covered by Scott Higgins.  Bill Brown brought in some info on the current erupting volcano in Alaska.  Pat Barker brought in a couple of scientific catalogues.  A show committee report was presented by Charles Forsberg.  Bob Whitmore reviewed the past meetings for the Scholarship Committee.  Club auditors was discussed with a new project being added of auditing the club locker.  The By-Law changes will be printed in the next month’s newsletter.

New Business:  A sign up sheet was presented for missing name tags.  A possible speaker on volcanoes was mentioned.  Scott Higgins covered possible field trips in the works.  Scott thanked everyone involved with the Xmas party.  Pat Barker thanked the club for making her and her husband, Bob Barker, honorary members.  Eric Cadieux brought up the question of possible good mineral specimens involved with volcanoes.  Bill Burroughs contributed several books to the Club that he won at the past Sunapee auction.  Carlos Gristani talked about forming a new Faceting Guild with a meeting to be held at his home.  Charles Forsberg mentioned that he was looking for volunteers for the show committee positions.

Carlos Gristani supplied this month’s refreshments.

The door prizes were won by Pat Barker, Olivia Graham, John McCrory and Britney Graham.

This month’s speaker was Bob Whitmore who presented a talk on the very small subject of Micro Minerals.  Bob discussed the collecting, trimming and cleaning of the specimens.  The many choices in types of display boxes were shown with the pros and cons of each covered.  Photography, with all its demands and rewards was also covered in detail.  The “What to Do’s” and “What Not to Do’s,” suggested by Bob, help us all appreciate his experience with this subject.

Respectfully submitted,

Vincent Valade

Secretary
