The October meeting of the CMC will meet Saturday, October 18th
(Please Note The Date Change), at 7:30 PM at the Salvation
Army Building on Clinton Street in Concord, NH. The program will be on "Minerals of St. Lawrence County, NY". The obvious display theme for this month is New York Minerals. The speaker will be Dr. Steven C. Chamberlain. Born in 1946 in Everett, PA. He is a Professor of Bioengineering and Neuroscience and Affiliate Professor of Earth Sciences, Syracuse University. Steve received a degree in electrical engineering and a minor in mineralogy at MIT and finally his Ph.D. at Syracuse University in systems neuroscience (Sensory Sciences). He was the former Chair of Department of Bioengineering and Neuroscience and former Dean of College of Engineering and Computer Science. He currently is convening co-chairman of the Rochester Mineralogical Symposium and has been for the last 17 years of it’s 30 year history. He is the acting coordinator for the Center for Mineralogy at the New York State Museum where you will find several of his specimens on display. He is also Consulting editor for Rocks and Minerals which has published several of his articles. Steve’s research interests include vision in horseshoe crabs and hydrothermal vent shrimp, mineral biogenesis, and the topographic mineralogy of New York State. Other obsessions include opera, photography, and growing hostas, he is the Scientific Director the American Hosta Society. Steve’s real claim in his own words are "bald, fat, talks too much! Can’t go mineral collecting without getting filthy!" With that said, he has found time to talk to the Club. You will enjoy his humor and presentation. Refreshment’s will be provided by Jon Herndon.
